An organ is a group of two or more tissue that works together to complete a common function.
Your body has around 78 organs.
In this video, I will cover several major organs.

The brain is the boss of your body. It runs the show and controls just about everything you do, even when you’re asleep

The heart is a very strong muscle made of cardiac muscle that helps pump your blood throughout your body.

The kidneys are very important because they filter your blood and produce urine.

The spleen filters blood and acts like disease detectives. It also produces antibodies and lymphocytes which fight germs.

The Small and Large intestines are a major site of digestion. The small intestine is responsible for 90 percent of digestion. At the same time, the large intestines absorb salts, mineral, and vitamins.

The Liver Is a large organ with over 200 functions. It produces bile which helps with digestion, stores glycogen, and filters your blood to eliminate harmful bacteria and damaged cells.

The gallbladder stores the bile produced by the liver

Your stomach Is a site of digestion of the food we eat. After chewing our food it travels down the esophagus to the stomach.

The pancreas helps to regulate the blood sugar level of your body.

The skin protects us from disease, removes waste, and helps control our temperature.

Finally, the Lungs are responsible for exchanging oxygen for carbon dioxide

We’re going to take apart a plastic anatomy model and see what we can find in the abdomen. We’ll identify as many organs as we can, see how they fit into the abdomen relative to one another, working our way from anterior to posterior.

A Journey Inside Your Body

health No Comments »

Hey guys! Wanna go on an epic journey…through the human body? C’mon, don’t be scared, it’s perfectly safe! We’re gonna start with the mouth because it’s the gateway to the digestive system. That system is designed specifically to transform food into useful nutrients that keep you energized and help your cells grow and repair.

By the way, did you know that the amount of saliva you produce in a year could fill 2 medium-sized bathtubs! Almost a pool full of drool! Yuck! But saliva comes in handy as it mixes with food and breaks it down even more. That way, your stomach doesn’t have to digest whole chunks of food. Interested? Then let’s do it! You’re gonna learn a lot about yourself!

SUMMARY:
– So, once you grab the first bite of whatever you’re eating, you turn on the digestion machine. As you chew, food is broken up into pieces to make the process easier.
– The muscles in the walls of this guy’s esophagus are squeezing behind me and relaxing in front of me. This is a process called peristalsis, and it’s what moves me through your digestive system.
– The stomach holds, mixes, and grinds the food up into mush, so it has to be pretty strong.
– The small intestine is made up of 3 sections. Bile is crucial to digest fat and take all the waste out of your blood, so be thankful your liver produces it.
– And that thing over there that looks like a pear – that’s the gallbladder. It’s located under the liver and keeps bile in it until the right moment comes.
– Also known as the colon, it’s a muscular tube that’s 5 to 6 feet long.
– Your intestines need good bacteria to help them break down food, vitamins, and nutrients so that your body can use them.
– Still loads of bacteria all over the place. There can’t be too little or too many – otherwise you’d have digestive problems like food intolerances.
– When the left colon gets too full of stool, it decides to dump it all into the rectum because it can’t hold it all by itself.
– The rectum is a straight chamber that’s about 8 inches long. It has special sensors, like this one or that one there, that let you know when there’s something you should get rid of.
– If the moment is right for you (that is, you find a toilet), the sphincters relax, and ta-da! Your stool makes its exit.
– Those rectum sensors help too so that the urge to release its contents disappears for a while.

How does cancer spread through the body? – Ivan Seah Yu Jun

Cancer usually begins with one tumor in a specific area of the body. But if the tumor is not removed, cancer has the ability to spread to nearby organs as well as places far away from the origin, like the brain. How does cancer move to these new areas and why are some organs more likely to get infected than others? Ivan Seah Yu Jun explains the three common routes of metastasis.

10 Incredible Human Body Facts That Will Blow Your Mind!

10 Incredible Human Body Facts That Will Blow Your Mind!

Have you ever considered just how amazing the human body really is? Some of the most remarkable discoveries in science take place within the human body, and while Some of these facts may be hard to believe, many of them will be happening inside of you right now!

The Human Brain Produces Enough Electricity To Power A Small Light Bulb. The image of a light bulb popping up above your head when you have that “eureka” moment isn’t too far off the mark, considering our brain’s use approximately as much energy as a 20 watt light bulb, it’s remarkable how efficient it is when compared to one the worlds fastest supercomputers that needed 82,000 processors and 40 minutes, to simulate just 1 second of just 1% of our brain activity.

Nails And Hair Do Not Continue To Grow After We Die. They do appear longer when we die, but It’s not that the fingernails and hair are growing, but that the skin around them has dehydrated, the skin dries out and retracts which makes the hair and nails appear longer.

The Pink Thing In The Inside Corner Of Your Eye Is Called The Plica Semilunaris And Is An evolutionary Leftover. The plica semilunaris is a remnant of a nictitating membrane, more commonly known as a third eyelid. It would have moved across the eye horizontally to protect, moisten and wipe away debris while maintaining visibility. Many fish, birds, reptiles and even some mammals like camels and polar bears have a third eye lid.

Facial Hair Grows Faster Than Any Other Hair On The Human Body. If the average man did not shave his facial hair during his entire life, it would grow to over 30 feet
,which is about the same length as double-decker bus.

Babies Are Born With 300 Bones But By Adulthood The Number Is Reduced To 206. The reason for this is that many of the bones of children are comprised of smaller component bones that are not yet fused like those in the skull, this makes it easier for a baby to pass through the birth canal, the bones then harden and fuse as the child grows.

Your Heart Beats About 100,000 Times A Day. During the average persons lifespan, the human heart will beat more than 2.5 billion times, that’s around 35 million times in just one year, so about 100,000 times a day.

Human Bones Ounce For Ounce Are Stronger Than Steel. A cubic inch of bone can in principle bear a load roughly the equivalent of five pickup trucks. The strongest bone
in the body is the femur or thighbone, which is about 48cm long. Our bones can also be made stronger, the impact of your feet hitting ground when running or the shock waves that are sent up your arm when punching a punch bag, create microscopic fractures that not only do your bones fix but also build extra bone on top off.

From The Age Of Thirty Humans Gradually Begin To Shrink In Size. Research has shown that by age 70, on average, men have become around an inch shorter and women around 2 inches shorter, with another inch lost by 80. This is because the discs between our vertebrates are compressed over time, also with age we become less efficient at replacing bone so our bones can also lose size and density.

The Surface Area Of A Human Lung Is Equal To A Tennis Court. In order to more efficiently oxygenate the blood, the lungs are filled with thousands of branching bronchi, filled with microscopic capillaries which convert oxygen to carbon dioxide. The large surface area makes it easier for this exchange to take place, and makes sure you stay properly oxygenated at all times.

If Uncoiled The DNA In All Of The Cells In Your Body Would Stretch 10 Billion Miles, From Here To Pluto And Back. DNA is a fine, spirally coiled thread in the nucleus ofevery living cell that serves as a guidebook so the cells know what they’re supposed to do. If you stretched the DNA in one cell all the way out,it would be about 2 metres long.
