The D Major Chord has two white notes and one black note: D, F#, and A.

Start with your right hand thumb: Look for the two black notes. The white note in the middle is the D. Put your thumb on D.

Your middle finger plays F sharp. F sharp is the lower black note (on the left) of the group of three black notes.

The pinky goes on A. To find A, count up five notes from D, including the D.
